This original recipe for the cake was invented in 1893 in the kitchen of the legendary Palmer House hotel in Chicago. The first brownies were just a bar with caramel walnut cream on top. For more than 50 years, the Brownies has been baked according to the original recipe — from chocolate and sugar, flour, eggs and nuts — covered with apricot glaze on top.
