Blueberries are juicy by nature, and provide a full mouth feel when used for wine. Blueberry wine is a unique beverage in the fact that it is quite expensive to make, at least when compared with other popular wines. However, blueberries are amazing to taste, and therefore it can be justified. 

It’s a very traditional drink in Finland, and actually the most distant ancestor to this kind of drink was drunk over 2 000 years ago in Egypt. The blueberry wine recipe method is easy and it is the perfect tonic for cold nights and the holidays. Blueberry is a delicious fruit that can be used in a lot of ways, from desserts to drinks. Blueberries make a wonderful addition to alcoholic beverages.

Ingredients

  • Lemon Peel (to taste)
  • Mint (to taste)
  • Water (to taste)
  • 7 Lb Blueberries Fresh
  • 4 Lb Sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1

Peel the blueberries, wash and dry them. Then the blueberries need to be chopped. Use a blender or a food processor.

Step 2

Make a syrup of water and sugar. Then pour some of the still hot sugar syrup over the chopped mint and lemon zest. Chill the mixture and the remaining syrup.

Step 3

When the syrup has cooled completely, place the blueberry puree, mint and zest and syrup in the prepared container.

Step 4

Stir the mixture thoroughly and leave it to ferment for a week at room temperature, stirring regularly.

Step 5

After 7 days, pour the settled liquid into another container with a water trap.

Step 6

In this form, leave the liquid for another week to continue the fermentation process.

Step 7

Ready-made homemade blueberry wine is bottled and stored until the first use of 3-4 months.

Blueberry wine has a wonderful deep red color and is a refreshing summertime drink that complements nearly every food. Blueberry wine is simple to make, although allowing time for it to age is crucial. 

If you have access to fresh blueberries, the best thing would be to use them immediately after picking them in order to capture their flavor profile at its peak. As these wines age, the flavors become smoother and more developed.
