The baked potato is a traditional, normally American side dish consisting of one or more potatoes, usually baked in the oven. They can be served with or without the skin on and may be cut into quarters or halves. Often they are served with butter, sour cream, chives or any combination of those condiments. They may also be topped with cheese, bacon bits, crumbled cooked bacon pieces, chopped scallions, diced tomatoes, additional seasonings (like rosemary or garlic) if desired.
