The baked potato is a traditional, normally American side dish consisting of one or more potatoes, usually baked in the oven. They can be served with or without the skin on and may be cut into quarters or halves. Often they are served with butter, sour cream, chives or any combination of those condiments. They may also be topped with cheese, bacon bits, crumbled cooked bacon pieces, chopped scallions, diced tomatoes, additional seasonings (like rosemary or garlic) if desired.
Heat oven to 425ºF with wire rack in the middle.
Now we will prepare the potatoes, you need to wash them thoroughly and remove all stains with a vegetable peeling knife. Then wipe it dry with a paper towel.
We take out our favorite olive oil and rub the potatoes. It’s easiest to use your hands, but a pastry brush also works fine.
Generously sprinkle the potatoes on all sides with salt and pepper.
Now you need to take a fork and chop the potatoes. This allows steam to escape from the baking potato.
Potatoes can be baked directly on the oven rack or placed on a baking sheet. Bake the potatoes for 50 minutes.
Turn them over about every 20 minutes and check for readiness by poking with a knife. The potatoes are ready when the skins are dry and the insides feel completely soft when pierced.
